Durham is in the
north-east of England. The nearest airports are Newcastle Airport and Teesside Airport , both a
25 minute taxi ride from Durham. If you take a Taxi at the airport, it
will cost about 30 pounds. You can book in advance (e.g. taxi Paddy's
0191 384 2853), in which case it will cost 24 pounds.
Alternatively, take metro from inside the airport to Newcastle Central
Station. There are frequent
trains to Durham (they take 10-15 minutes) but beware: *not* after
8pm. Prices are: Metro (2.2 pounds), train (4.20 pounds)
London King's Cross is 3 1/2 hours by train. There are frequent flights
to Newcastle from Stansted Airport (with EasyJet), Heathrow and Gatwick
(BA).
